Bride's
Proposal Story
As
a girl, I pictured the "perfect proposal." Then, as an
adult, I learned that nothing is perfect. However, in every aspect
of my life, Charlie has surpassed all of my expectations and dreams.
I should have known it would be no less when it came to the proposal.
It truly was perfect!
Friday,
February 17th - it was a beautiful day. Sunny, warm, and simply
a nice day hanging out with our friends. I, however, had no idea
what the night would bring. That evening we had a wonderful dinner
at Disney's Polynesian Hotel. After dinner, we took the monorail
over to Disney's Grand Floridian Hotel where we were to watch the
fireworks over Magic Kingdom. Being proposed to at that exact location
was my dream. However, no one knew that. As Charlie and I walked,
hand in hand, down toward the dock, I remember thinking how perfect
the night was and how blessed I was.
Once
the fireworks started, Charlie began the proposal. He started with
Proverbs 18:22 about finding a good wife, and he gave me a new Bible
with my new name on it. As he got on one knee, he asked me to complete
his life by being his wife. Later, he handed me a special note with
Snow White on it (my favorite Disney princess). The note said: "Ours
may not be a fairytale romance, but I believe it was meant to be.
So sometime in 2006, will you marry me?" My dream had come
true and with the tears gushing from my eyes I said yes to forever
with the man of my dreams, the love of my life, and the greatest
man in the world! By the way - the ring is GORGEOUS!! I was so stunned
I couldn't even take it out of the box, but as Charlie placed it
on my finger, I was certain that everything was perfect and that
I had found my fairy tale.
Groom's
Proposal Story
I
really wanted to make the perfect moment, the perfect mood, the
perfect setting special for Megan. She had never spoken of what
she wanted or expected with regards to the proposal. I didn't want
to just hand her a ring and have nothing memorable about the moment.
This was going to be a very special moment that would forever change
both of ours lives.
I
had a hard time of thinking of how to do it. I researched ideas
and all of the ideas being very romantic, none of them were really
what we liked. So, I took the two things that Megan and I both love
a lot and ran with it - our religious faith and Disney. I knew that
we were going to Disney in February. We loved it so much in September,
when we were last there together, we immediately made plans to go
again. We had also ate dinner at the Polynesian resort at the O'hana.
Afterwards, we had gone out and watched the fireworks at the Grand
Floridian. It was truly a magical moment the time before.
Also,
I noticed that her Bible was showing a lot of wear. I knew that
she was going to need a new one in the future. So, I got the idea
of buying her a new Bible with her new name on it.
I
was also going to need help with the proposal. I was going to absolutely
surprise everyone. However, I knew Megan was going to want pictures
of our engagement. Megan's friend, Amy, was going down with us to
Florida. I decided to give Amy a gift and in her card let her know
what I was up too. I asked her to help take the pictures. Amy enlisted
the help of our friends, Lonnie and Scot (whom we were staying with
in Florida).
Dinner
at the O'hana went very well. Afterwards, Lonnie went to the restroom
using the excuse that she wasn't feeling well and that we should
go on without her and Scot and they would catch up. So, we took
the Monorail over to the Grand Floridian and we walked down by the
lake, across from Magic Kingdom. It was an absolutely beautiful
night. Thankfully, it was not raining and it was warm outside. I
found the ideal location for the proposal to take in account for
pictures and with not as many people around. A lot of people had
came out to watch the fireworks. I saw Scot show up just in time
and hide my backpack behind a pillar. I used the excuse of having
Amy take some pictures of us and went over to get the backpack.
Amy took a couple of practice shots of us. The fireworks then started.
Disney
calls their fireworks presentation: "Wishes Nighttime Spectacular."
So, as the fireworks were starting, I asked Megan what she wished
for. She replied that I knew what she wished for, a lifetime of
happiness spent with me. I had written down earlier in the week
all of my feelings for her and given it to her with a card when
she had first arrived. I told her that everything I had said in
that card I truly meant. I then gave her an envelope with a small
card inside with the scripture Proverbs 18:22 printed on it. She
replied that although being a good Christian she had no idea what
that scripture said.
I
was counting on that. I told her I could help her out and gave her
a wrapped present. She opened it to receive her new Bible. She then
saw the name I had printed on it and she immediately started crying.
I had bookmarked the scripture earlier. We read it together and
then I told her I had something else for her. I got down on one
knee and to her, "Megan, would you complete me life, take this
ring and be my wife?" It took her a while to stop crying before
she could squeak out, "of course I'll be your wife." She
then opened her ring box to find her new candy ring pop decorated
in glitter. After a good laugh, I got back on one knee and put the
real one on her finger. It turned out to be a perfect fit.
We
had drawn quite a spectacle by that point and Lonnie yelled to everyone
that she said "Yes!" Lonnie and Scot had also snuck flowers
down to give to us.
It
turned out to be an absolutely perfect evening for both of us and
we were so happy to share it with very close friends.
